“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God.” (John 1:1-2)
As Christians, the Word of God must take first place in our lives at all times. It must be the very first consideration in all that we THINK, SAY, and DO. This is because Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, has Himself exalted His Word and given it first place in all that He does (see Psalm 138:2), and the Bible teaches us to be followers or imitators of God as His dear children (see Ephesians 5:1).
- God had His Word and made His Word coequal with Himself in the beginning (John 1:1).
- God created all things by His Word (John 1:3; Psalm 33:6; Hebrews 11:30.
- God has magnified His Word above all His name (Psalm 138:2).
- God upholds all things by His Word (Hebrews 1:3).
And the list goes on and on!
God literally does everything by His Word with the backing of His mighty Holy Spirit, and He expects us to act like Him! This is why the Bible says that “without faith (believing and acting on the Word of God) it is impossible to please God.” (Hebrews 11:6).
By giving God’s Word first place in your life, you are giving God and His Kingdom the first place that God requires in order to bless you in all aspects of your life! As it is written, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33).
Now, let us look at some key Bible truths about the Word of God to encourage you to make a personal choice to always give God’s Word first place in your life.
Faith Begins and Ends with God’s Word
The Christian faith operates strictly within the confines of the Word of God. There is no Christian faith outside of God’s Word. Faith begins and ends in the Word of God. This is why the Bible says that Jesus Christ (called The Word of God – Revelation 19:13) is the Author and Finisher of our Faith (Hebrews 12:2). Furthermore, the Bible also says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17). Therefore, by giving God’s Word first place in your life, you will be able to live by the kind of faith that pleases God and enjoy all the rewards that God has for you both in this life and in the one to come (see Hebrews 11:6)
The Word of God Contains God’s Wisdom
The Word of God is the source of the Wisdom of God that we need to succeed in all that we do in this life. The Bible says that wisdom is the principal thing that we need to get (Proverbs 4:7) and it is more valuable than anything else that can be desired in this world (Proverbs 8:11). Therefore, by giving God’s Word first place in your life, you are giving the Wisdom of God the right place to operate in your life and help you succeed according to God’s plan for you.
The Word of God Contains the Life and Power of God
According to the Bible, the Word of God is spiritual and contains the Life and Power of God (see Hebrews 4:12; John 6:63). The Life of God is the Overcoming Life, and the Power of God is always the Victorious Power! Therefore, whenever you live by obeying God’s Word, you will have access to the Overcoming Life and Victorious Power of Almighty God!
The Word of God is Your Guide
It is the Word of God that the Holy Spirit uses to instruct us and guide us in the Way of God’s Righteousness in order to bring us into the fulfilment of the prosperous and successful destiny that God has for us in all aspects of our lives. (Psalm 119:105; Psalm 119:133; Joshua 1:8). Therefore, giving God’s Word first place in your life will allow the Holy Spirit to help you fulfill your Divine destiny.
The Word of God is The Truth You Need to Defeat the Lies of the Devil
According to Jesus Christ, a Christian ought to diligently continue in the Word of God to be a true disciple who knows the Truth (John 8:31-32). This because knowledge of the Truth is vital in defeating the Devil and his lies (see John 8:44). Therefore, give priority to knowing the Word of God with all diligence so that you may live in victory over the Devil and his lies.
The Word of God is Medicine to All Areas of Your Life
The Bible describes the Word of God as life and medicine to all aspects of the life of whoever pays due attention to it (see Proverbs 4:20-22). In other words, the Word of God can make you whole as God intends for you to be! Therefore, be diligent to give God’s Word first place in your life and live a wholesome life in Christ Jesus.
You Will Be Judged and Rewarded by God’s Word
The Bible teaches that every Christian shall ultimately be judged and rewarded by Jesus Christ on the basis of how faithful each one has been in living a life of obedience to the Word of God during this earthly life. It is written, “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.” (Revelation 20:12). Therefore, by giving God’s Word first place in your life, you are positioning yourself to receive the best rewards in God’s everlasting Kingdom!
