What to Do When the Promises of God Seem To Be Taking Too Long

“… though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry (Habakkuk 2:3)

“And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: [12] That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:11-12)

Whenever God makes a promise, He always has a “due season” in His mind for its fulfillment. The “due season” may be short or long. Where many people often run into problems with their walk of faith is when the “due season” seems to be too long in their own estimation of time. So what do you do in such a situation to ensure that you don’t forfeit the promise of God?

Here are some key things to do:

Refuse To Doubt

Doubt hinders faith and renders it unfruitful. That’s why Jesus said to Peter in Matthew 14:31, “… O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?” (Matthew 14:22-33). Whenever you doubt, you are wavering and entertaining double minds about the Word of God. And according to the Bible in James 1:6-8, a person who wavers and entertains double minds is unstable in his or her walk of faith, and cannot receive anything from God!

Keep Believing Even If the Situation Gets Worse

When you are walking by faith, the circumstance sometimes goes from bad to worse. In such a case you must choose to keep believing God’s Word instead of allowing your faith to waver. That’s why Jesus said to Jairus in Mark 5:36, “… Be not afraid, only believe.” (Mark 5:22-24, 35-43). According to the Bible in 2 Corinthians 5:7, “We walk by faith, not by sight.” This clearly shows that genuine faith is not based on how the situation looks to the natural human senses. Rather, it is based only on whatever the Word of God says. Therefore, simply choose to keep believing God’s Word if the situation gets worse.

Keep Praying In Faith, Trusting That God Will Surely Grant Your Request Even If He Takes Long To Do So

The prayer of faith never fails to get the required answer from God because it always perseveres until the physical manifestation of the answer. Genuine faith stands solely on the Word of God, and because God’s Word never changes, it never gives up until the victorious end. (Luke 18:1-8; Luke 11:5-8)

Choose to Wait Patiently for God’s “Due Season”

Faith requires patience in order to obtain fulfilment of God’s promises. Whenever you add patience to your faith you are proofing the genuineness of your faith. Furthermore, patience is what helps faith to overcome every obstacle and endure to the time of fulfilment of God’s Word. (Hebrews 6:12; 10:36).

Keep Praising and Thanking God While You Are Waiting for God’s “Due Season”

Praising and thanking God while you are waiting for His Word to manifestly come to pass is the highest expression of your faith. It shows that you have absolute trust in Almighty God as the faithful God who never fails to keep His promises! (Habakkuk 3:17-19; Romans 4:20-21).
